The Bell Project

The Bell Project

Larry & Sandra Brookshire smile with the symbolic bell they donated to Alan B. Regional Cancer Center

Sandra Brookshire, the wife of Larry (a GCP consultant and sales rep), was diagnosed with Breast Cancer for her second time in 2013. Knowing firsthand the hardships undergone in treatment, Sandra and Larry decided to donated a large bell to the Alan B. Pearson Regional Cancer Center as added motivation for patients to ring once they’ve successfully complete their radiation and chemotherapy treatments.  When the bell chimes echo through the center, patients and staff take a moment to offer their congratulations for someone who has reached a milestone.

Through Sandra and Larry’s passion and dedication, GCP recognized the importance of patients being able to celebrate this important milestone and wanted to help commemorate this special moment. For each patient who completes their treatment at Blue Ridge Cancer Center and Alan B Pearson Cancer Center, in Virginia, GCP donates a small personal silver bell for patients to keep. Within the first week, 25 bells were donated and able to provide cancer patients a memento to mark their passing through this most challenging stage and provide further optimism for the future.
