As many of you are aware, China has been dealing with an outbreak of a new pneumonia-like illness that originated in the central city of Wuhan.
Known as the coronavirus (nCoV), this illness has infected people across China cities and spread to multiple countries in Asia, North America and Europe.
The spike in cases before the Lunar New Year raised fears that the virus could spread further as hundreds of millions of people traveled around China and abroad.
In an effort to contain the spread of the coronavirus, the Chinese government applied a public transportation control policy, putting numerous cities under lockdown. As well as deciding to extend the Lunar New Year holiday through February 2 in order to keep the general public at home. Moreover, local government requires factories to further delay re-opening until Feb 9th.
GCP is pleased to report that none of our production partner facilities, or ports we use, are located within the lockdown cities. However, due to the extended Lunar New Year precautions, production we expected to begin this week are now set to resume operations next Monday February 10.
Currently there is no evidence to support transmission of 2019-nCoV associated with imported goods and there have not been any cases of 2019-nCoV in the United States associated with imported goods.
GCP will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide more information as we learn more.
