Our average expected production times across all product lines decreased 7 days heading into July, as China fully re-emerges from quarantine curbs. Our National Silicone solid sheet line saw the largest decrease coming down a staggering 25 days. This is followed closely by our National Silicone sponge line and GCP UHMW-PE sheet line both down 10 days. Our Premlene sheet rubber line also decreased 10 days, for the second consecutive month. All other expected production times remain unchanged from June.
As we move into July, there are signs of decreased demand out of Asia, at least on a macro level. In a recent survey by freightos.com it reported small-medium business importers have largely placed peak season orders early in the effort to build up inventory. This coincides with the information out of the Shanghai port which shows minimal port congestion. This means there’s been no signs of a surge in pent up demand which many expected once the city lifted it’s covid restrictions. Port congestion has also improved on the U.S. side with fewer than 20 ships waiting for berth outside the LA/Long Beach ports. At it’s peak there were over 100 ships waiting in January this year.
July Production Times
Our July 2022 production times measure the change in days an average order will take to produce from the time it is submitted (all facilities). This includes the time it takes to book a container. However, it excludes ocean shipping and other transit times.
