From Vision to Industry Leadership

The Journey of GCP Industrial Products.

The story of GCP Industrial Products begins in the mid-1990s in Louisville, Kentucky, when Gary Mottershead, then-owner of Recovery Technologies, an innovative tire recycling company, received an intriguing proposition: Would he be interested in selling tire-recycling units to China?

Seeing the potential in the opportunity, Gary seized the chance. However, after several visits to the country, he quickly realized the market wasn’t interested in the equipment he was offering. But he did see an opportunity. Specifically, how to take what was currently being made and make it suitable for the unique requirements of the North American sheet rubber marketplace.

Recognizing this gap, Gary and his partners shifted focus. They set out to create a superior, long-lasting sheet rubber material—one that was high-quality, consistent, and durable. After three years of dedication and development, the first roll of rubber finally left the factory floor.

What began with a narrow product offering of commercial SBR evolved into a diverse portfolio of over 2,400 SKUs, three trusted brands, and global production capabilities. Today, GCP Industrial Products is known for one of the industry’s most extensive and reliable ranges of sheet, sponge, and foam rubber solutions.
